Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal crash on I-75 in Hernando near State Road 50.
The accident happened at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon as sixty-nine year old driver Francis Lockamy from Brandon drove his Toyota 4Runner SUV northbound on Interstate 75 just north of State Road 50.
Lockamy was driving in the outside lane when for reasons unknown, swerved the SUV off the roadway onto the shoulder. After entering the shoulder on the east side of the highway, the Toyota SUV drove the other direction going across the lanes of traffic and crashing into a concrete barrier. The impact with the barrier wall redirected the SUV back into the road where it rolled over and came to a stop on the shoulder.
Lockamy was driving with a passenger, 60 year old Linda J. Lockamy also from Brandon. First responders stated that Linda Lockamy died at the crash site, while driver Francis Lockamy was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Troppers from the FHP stated that alcohol was not a factor and that both occupants had been wearing a seat belt during the crash.
